A sneaky leak, a running toilet, or dripping faucet might not seem like a big deal, but they can add up over time. You end up paying for a lot of water you didn’t even use.
Keep an eye on your usage.
Every bill includes a snapshot of your usage. Increases could be caused by houseguests, or using more water during the summer. But usage can also show if leaks have been impacting your bill. If you had unusually high bills due to a leak, request a payment agreement.

Your meter can reveal a hidden leak.
The first clue to a hidden leak is the water meter, usually in your basement. When water is flowing somewhere in your house, the blue dial will turn, and the numbers will increase. So if you see activity overnight, or when no one is using water, there’s a good chance of a leak.

Check your toilet.
If you have to jiggle the handle, chances are it might be using water. There are parts inside that need to be replaced from time to time. Issues in the tank are often inexpensive to fix and can be done yourself.
